The tiny Port de Valldemossa on the rugged west coast of Mallorca took some white knuckle driving down a very twisty and narrow road to get to.
But it was well worth the effort, as this lovely little fishing village has remained relatively unspoilt and undeveloped, and reeks of olde worlde charm.
The one concession to tourism is the seafood restaurant right on the edge of the Mediterranean, but even that had a very rustic feel to it, even if the prices put it way out of Liz's and my budget for eating out.
The day we visited Port de Valldemossa there was a strong onshore breeze which was driving a heavy swell onto the stony beach, resulting in some great wave splash action which I was determined to do justice to in a photograph.
Photographing a wave splash in a way that conveys excitement and dynamism requires a slowish shutter speed to allow the wave splash to blur somewhat, which in turn meant I had to use my tripod, together with a small aperture of f22 and a polarising filter to further reduce the amount of light getting onto the camera's sensor on this bright, sunny afternoon.
In the end, I spent a happy half hour photographing various waves as they hit the beach while Liz did some local exploring in the backstreets of the port.
This photo was the best of the bunch, with a decent wave splash that didn't obscure details of the rocks and cliff in the background.
I also shot some video of the wave action, which is available to view by following the link to my stock media outlet.
