The golden light of a low winter's sun splashes over the rippled surface of the Menai Straits as I stand in slack jawed wonder at the beauty unfolding before me.
My wife Liz and I are here on the shore of the Straits at the end of a day spent walking the beaches and headlands of Anglesey, that jewel of an island just off the North Wales coast.
I'm glad we made the effort to come here rather than heading home for tea, as the quality of the late afternoon light at this time of year is just stunning.
There's not a breath of wind and the Straits are reflecting the cloudscape overhead, making a wonderful backdrop to the mountains of the Llyn Peninsula as they recede off towards the western horizon.
A few minutes later and the sun sets, the light turns to grey and it's time to finally head back to the car for the drive home, basking in the feeling of well being that being immersed in such beauty engenders.
We'll be back.
