A beautiful smokey sunset over the snow dusted peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe, as viewed from the shores of Llyn Mymbyr in the Snowdonia National park, North Wales.
Normally it's impossible to take a photo into the sun that still retains detail in both the sky and land - you can either render the land black and see detail in the sky, or render the sky completely white and see detail in the land.
But on this occasion, with the sun veiled behind a translucent layer of high cloud, it was possible, with the help of a strategically placed ND grad filter, to achieve an exposure that contained detail almost everywhere, with only the disk of the sun blowing out to pure white.
This is a lovely evocative image of a scene that I've photographed many times in the past under widely different lighting conditions, each with its own unique mood.
This one speaks to me of the calm at the end of the day, as the landscape quietens in preparation for the oncoming night.
