To some folk, the rhododendron is an invasive weed that has no place in the British countryside.
They may have a point, botanically speaking, but there's no denying that these sometimes huge plants can put on an absolutely stunning display of colour.
At the far end of Llyn Gwynant in the Snowdonia National Park there's a large grove of rhododendrons which my wife Liz and I stopped to admire and photograph in the spring sunshine of late May 2017.
We'd been on a trip through Snowdonia, taking in some of our favourite viewpoints, and we on our way to Beddgelert when we saw the bright pink of the flowers by the side of the road.
A quick pull in to a convenient layby resulted in a happy half hour exploring the sights, sounds and smells of the rhododendrons, set against the stunning backdrop of Llyn Gwynant and the surrounding Snowdonia landscape.
