An absolute gem of a location, this is the beach at Llangranog, on the welsh coast in the county of Ceredigion.
My wife Liz and I visited here during our few days' holiday in the Pembrokeshire National Park, and this is as far north as we ventured during our stay.
Liz remembered this spot from a childhood holiday and wanted to see it again briefly, not intending to stay very long.
But when we arrived we were both stunned by the beauty on display, with dramatic rock formations on the beach exposed by the ebbing tide.
So our brief stopover turned into an afternoon and evening's worth of exploring and photographing, culminating in my shooting of several hundred frames from this spot to make a time lapse video of the sunset colours.
But before capturing the time lapse stills we had a good mooch around the beach before the tide turned, admiring the geology and, of course, photographing interesting compositions and juxtapositions.
With a cloud covered sky the light was pretty flat, which was good in terms of being able to capture details on the rocks, but even so, I needed to take five seperate exposures, each one stop apart, for an HDR blend to reveal detail in every part of the image.
I also decided to turn the final version of this image from colour to warm toned monochrome, to place further emphasis on the shapely rocks without the distraction of yellow sand in the foreground.
