Llangollen, on the banks of the river Dee in North Wales, is a town that relies in part on its olde worlde charm to attract visitors from all over the planet.
Part of that charm is the way that old shops and building have been preserved and are still in use much as they were decades ago.
This little tea shop, part of an old wharf on the banks of the Llangollen canal, is just such a place and, although very twee, was a very attractive subject for a photograph.
I had a problem with the scene, in that the tonal range between shadow and highlight areas was well beyond what I could record in a single exposure, and as I wanted to show detail everywhere that meant shooting multiple exposures and blending them together in Photomatix Pro.
Normally I try and avoid doing this, preferring the simplicity of a single capture, but in this case the Photomatix software in exposure fusion mode did a great job of providing a natural looking file for me to finish off in PhotoShop.
