The countryside around the border between North Wales and England is dotted with the remains of a turbulent history, with the ruins of many castles and strongholds dotted around on hilltops.
One of the more dramatic ruins is that of the castle Dinas Bran, perched high above the charming market town of Llangollen.
A drive up a steep single track road will get you to this lovely viewpoint, from where you can climb to the castle or, like me, admire the view of the castle set against the surrounding rolling countryside.
A sunny evening in late spring with gorgeous light made capturing the scene in a photo an absolute no-brainer, although the high contrast range did necessitate using a high dynamic range (HDR) blend of five seperate exposures to capture detail throughout the composition.
