OK, so I'm not a wildlife photographer!
But a trip to Chester Zoo with the grandchildren was too good an opportunity to miss from a picture taking point of view.
In order to maximise my chances of a decent shot I toted my Canon 6D fitted with a 100-400mm zoom, which left me walking a bit lopsided by the end of the day!
Never mind though, as it was definitely the tool for the job, with its long reach and shallow depth of field allowing me to isolate detail and blur annoying backgrounds.
Out of the couple of hundred images I took that day I had very few 'keepers', which I was expecting really.
This shot of a lion at rest works reasonably well, in that the point of interest, the lion's nead, is a lot brighter than the backgoroud which helps to emphasise this noble creature's face and mane.
The grandchildren loved the zoo, so no doubt we'll be back for more when the weather's nice.
