Lilies #1

Three lilies in monochrome

The story behind this image

Flowers, especially lilies, make for some lovely photographic arrangements.

With the subtleties of shape, texture and colour available it's sometimes hard to avoid overcrowding a photograph with too many competing elements that end up reducing the impact of the image as a whole.

That's why, for this image of three lilies I decided to remove the colour element, leaving the mind free to appreciate the tones and textures, light and shadow, shape and form, of these wonderful flowers.
