This photo is very much a straight shot of one of my most favourite places, Penmon Point on the easternmost point of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.
Normally when I'm here photographing the scenery I'll go for a wide angled view, encompassing foreground rocks and plenty of sky, but on this evening, with the low angled rays of the setting sun grazing the scene, I decided to try something different.
So I took off for the far end of the shingle beach and picked out the lighthouse with a long telephoto lens, set against Puffin Island in the background.
The long lens has compressed the perspective of the scene, giving a much different, but not unwelcome, feeling of intimacy to the lighthouse.
Also the angler, just in front of the lighthouse, is essential in providing a sense of scale to the scene and to add a counterpoint to the looming presence of the lighthouse itself.
