I've lost track of how many evenings and sunsets I've spent on the cliffs of Anglesey overlooking South Stack lighthouse, waiting for that all elusive lightshow.
Nine times out of ten I'll come home having enjoyed the experience, but without having seen or photographed that 'something special' that is what gets landscape photographers all fired up.
This time, however, it all came together, with clear skies at the horizon and beautifully shaped clouds, underlit from the sun which had just set and in just the right spot in the frame to compliment the lighthouse itself.
To get the best from the scene I used a three stop ND grad on the sky, a polariser on the sea to bring out the reflected colour and I timed my exposure to coincide with the light's rotation to give a nice bright spot as a focal point for the scene.
What a wonderful experience. I'm glad I made the effort to be there and stayed late.
