This photo is from Penmon Point, on the easternmost tip of the island of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.
I guess this photo illustrates why I love the coast so much. This is the 25th (yes - 25th!) photo of Penmon Point I've created for goHOWiE.com, and looking back, each one has different emphasis and mood.
There's just so much variety in the interplay of light, tide, sea state and weather at the coast that I reckon I could visit the same spot everyday and come back with a fresh interpretation.
The mood in this particular image is one of calm and introspection. I took this photo shortly after sunset in the soft glow of twilight, and the gentle sea combined with a longish exposure resulted in the dreamlike appearance of the water that complimented my feelings at the time perfectly.
I worked hard on this image in PhotoShop, trying to bring out the mood of the scene, but I just couldn't catch it right until I converted to monochrome. The colour palette was too conflicting to give the serene feel I wanted to convey so the colour had to go, to be replaced with a composition based purely on tonality with a hint of a warm tone.
Sometimes less is more, especially when trying to express something a subtle as my mood on a peaceful evening by the sea.
