Unusually for me I was visiting Penmon Point, on the island of Anglesey, North wales, in the late afternoon rather than dawn, which is when I usually visit to catch the sunrise.
On this occasion the sea was like a millpond and the tide was just right for me to be able to photograph the lighthouse reflected in the narrow band of water separating it from the rocky headland.
The path you can see under the water in this image is actually exposed at low tide for a short while, and you can scramble across to the lighthouse itself.
However, on this occasion I rather liked the mystery of the submerged path giving a slightly surreal lead-in line to guide the eye to the lighthouse and its reflection.
A polariser took the reflections and glare off the water so the path could be seen, and a 3 stop hard edged ND grad filter reduced the contrast between the sky and the land, but more importantly took the edge of the glowing white highlights on the lighthouse which would have burned out otherwise.
A lovely evening's visit to a favourite spot.
