During our week long winter break on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands my wife Liz and I spent most of our time driving around the rugged volcanic landscape and coast, away from the more developed tourist spots.
One such out of the way spot we found for a stroll around was the little seaside village and beach of Playa Quemada, on the south coast of the island.
The beach here, made of wave smoothed lumps of volcanic lava, didn't seem too comfortable for sunbathing, but looked great for a spot of photography.
So, camera in hand, I stumbled and lurched across the lumps of lava till I got the composition I wanted, crouching down low amongst the rocks to emphasise the wonderful shapes and contours on offer.
My knees were glad when I'd finished and was able to stand back up again!
