One of the loveliest views that my wife Liz and I saw during our week long winter break on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands was that from the Mirador del Rio on the north coast, overlooking the smaller islands of La Graciosa and Montana Clara, out in the Atlantic ocean.
The weather on the day of our visit here was just perfect for a spot of photography, with crisp winter sunlight shining from a sky dotted with cumulus clouds, allowing patches of sunlight and shadow to play across the scene.
For our high viewpoint on the volcanic cliffs, the shallow water of the Atlantic were a beautiful shade of turquoise in which the island sat like jewels on velvet.
Far below we could just make out the small harbour on La Graciosa, filled with yachts and with just a smattering of white painted buildings along the seafront.
Just a lovely combination of light, colour and rocky textures in this most idyllic of places.
