I love it when a place you're visiting on holiday seems to make an extra bit of effort to look nice.
It may be that a town will be bedecked with flowers, or there'll be little fountains here and there. These touches can really lift a place out of the ordinary, and make it into somewhere you'd want to visit again and again.
Hallstatt, in Austria, struck Liz and I as one of those places when we visited there during our holiday last summer.
Although the weather was pants we found Hallstatt was still a lovely place to visit and just walk around looking.
One of those nice touches was the Chinese lanterns that were strung in the trees along the lakeside, all sorts of different shapes and colours.
We were so taken with the effect that we delayed our return trip back to Schaldming for half an hour or so and had another coffee while I photographed these thoughtful enhancements to the visitors' experience.
