This imposing scene is a view taken from the shores of Llyn Y Foel, a small lake on the eastern slopes of Moel Siabod, in Snowdonia, North Wales.
My wife Liz was attending a day course at the nearby Bangor University, so I had the day to myself to do some exploring.
I had read of this lake in Steve Lewis's book 'Private Views of Snowdonia', and I wanted to see it for myself.
The path up Moel Siabod that goes past Llyn Y Foel starts out on the A5 between Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig, and following my trusty Ordinance Survey map I was soon enjoying views that I'd never seen before.
The lake itself didn't disappoint, and although the weather was mixed the views of Moel Siabod reflecting in surface of the water were stunning.
Add an interesting foreground in the form of a textured rocky outcrop and a emotive composition is there for the taking.
I must make a return trip one day soon to see how this scene looks in different weather and lighting conditions - watch this space!
