This is a view of Lough Derg in the west of Ireland, taken from the highest point in the area.
Of all the non-photographic equipment I find useful as a landscape photographer, a decent topographic map is right there at the top of the list and I certainly wouldn't have found this view point without one.
Another important gadget is my sunrise and sunset compass, and I was looking forward to staying in this spot for the golden hour as I knew from consulting the compass that the sun would be setting at the ideal ninety degrees to this scene.
However, this being Ireland, it was not to be as the clouds rolled in and it was game over for the rest of that particular day. You can have all the photo gadgets in the world, but without light you've got nothing!
