During our holiday last summer in Austria, one thing that Liz and I found hard to find was standing water. We found plenty of moving water but very few lakes or ponds.
One exception was this man made beauty feature and monument that we found while walking around the Planai Panorama on a wonderfully still evening.
As a photographer I'll always make a beeline for standing water, be it a lake, pond, or even a humble rockpool, because I know that if I can get a good reflection in the water then that can transform a mediocre scene into something special.
Such was the case here up on the Planai, with the reflected sky and clouds providing a much needed area of contrast in the foreground of this composition, to break up the somewhat monotonous carpet of green that would have otherwise killed this image.
