When my wife Liz told me she'd booked a holiday apartment overlooking Lake Como in northern Italy for our late summer holiday, I was hopeful of a good view to photograph.
Little did I realise the visual treat in store from the balcony of our apartment, set high in the hills overlooking the quaint lakeside town of Varenna, right in the middle and prettiest part, of the lake.
As well as being beautiful by day, the view was absolutely stunning at night, with the lights of the lakeside towns of Varenna below, Menaggio over on the far shore and Bellagio at the centre of the lake shining out against the darkness.
The individual exposures used to create this panoramic collage were taken around half an hour after sunset, with a lovely twilight glow fading from the western skies.
