During our week long stay on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, my wife Liz and I took a day's ferry and coach excursion over to La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands just to the west of Tenerife itself.
Towards the end of a very busy but fulfilling day we boarded the ferry for the hour long sail back to Tenerife and stood at the stern to watch La Gomera fade into the distance as the ferry left the harbour at San Sebastian.
A few clouds had gathered over the volcanic ridges in the centre of the island, and were painting the town in a chiaroscuro dance of light and shade as we sailed away.
I watched as one patch of light swept across the landscape from left to right, waiting until the gaily coloured houses on the upper slopes of the town were brightly light and standing out against the surrounding shadows before pressing the shutter release for one final image of this lovely place.
