During our week long stay on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, my wife Liz and I took a day's ferry and coach excursion over to La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands just to the west of Tenerife itself.
Part of the day trip was a coach tour around the island's beauty spots, taking in the various types of flora that grew at differing altitudes on the volcanic landscape.
The island was unexpectedly verdant, with the vegetation getting most of its water from clouds that blew in from the Atlantic ocean.
So instead of the usual desert scrub that I was expecting, we were treated to a vertiable carpet of greenery, including this lovely field of what I think are giant daisies (correct me please!) growing on the slopes of a volcanic ridge.
Now I wasn't expecting that!
