During our week long stay on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, my wife Liz and I took a day's ferry and coach excursion over to La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands just to the west of Tenerife itself.
Part of the day trip was a coach tour around the island's beauty spots, taking in the various types of flora that grew at differing altitudes on the volcanic landscape.
One of the stops that we made was at a small botanical garden, featuring a range of the local flora, including the brightly coloured and somewhat flamboyant 'Bird of Paradise' flower, pictured here.
