In the autumn of 2018 my wife Liz and I spent an amazing two weeks exploring the lakes and mountains of northern Italy.
Based at Varenna on Lake Como, we travelled far and wide in our little Fiat Panda, taking in the beautiful scenery and lakeside towns.
But we didn't have far to go to see one of the loveliest places on Lake Como, the buildings and gardens of the wonderful Villa Monastero, just on the outskirts of Varenna itself.
Liz and I spent a wonderful few hours strolling around the grounds and stately homes on the site, with a fantastic photo opportunity seemingly everywhere you looked.
But it wasn't just the grand views that caught our attention, as Liz spotted this old carved fountain and basin, with the face above the basin sporting a vibrant ivy mustache.

Exposure - 1/60 secs @ f8, ISO3200
Filters - Polarising filter used to reduce glare and enhance colours.
Location - Villa Monastero near Varenna, Lake Como, Italy
Image enhancements - Adobe Lightroom
Comments - High ISO used to allow handheld exposure with image stabilisation.
