In the autumn of 2018 my wife Liz and I spent a fantastic two weeks exploring the lakes and mountains of northern Italy.
Our apartment was situated above the charming town of Varenna, right on the shores of Lake Como, and although we spent a lot of time driving around the region, we also took time out to enjoy the local delights of Varenna itself.
This image was taken from the balcony of our apartment at dusk, giving a glorious view out over Varenna and Lake Como to the mountains beyond, with the lights of one of the ferries that criss-cross the lake shining in the gathering darkness.
