The story behind this image

There's something magical about the light quality after the sun has gone down. Get a clear sky at the coast and the afterglow can be something amazing.

This particular photo was taken from Llandwyn Island on the west coast of Anglesey, looking southwest towards the Llyn Penisula and the Severn Sisters mountains on just such an evening.

I'd spent the day walking and photographing around this beautiful spot, and watched as the sun sank below the mountains. A few minutes after sunset the sky lit up orange while the sea was bathed in magenta from the sky overhead.

A conveniently placed foreground rock and a long exposure made for a very pleasing image with a wonderful feeling of calm and tranquility at the end of a glorious day.
