One of the most astonishing places that Liz and I visited on our cruise around Iceland was the active volcanic area of Hverarond.
With sulpherous fumeroles, boiling mud, and steam coming out of the ground we could have been on another planet.
In fact, the place is so other-worldly that astronauts get sent here for training!
This image shows a geothermal steam vent set against the dark lava field and the cone of a volcano in the background, but what the image can't convey is the small and sound of this amazing place.
