The highest deck on the P&O cruise liner Azura, as she was berthed at Akureyri on the north coast of Iceland, gave me a stunning perspective out over the Eyjafjordur fjord to the volcanic mountains behind.
But sticking out into the water from the end of the fjord was something I wasn't expecting to see, an airport runway.
With lovely dappled sunlight playing over the landscape I made the most of my lofty position to photograph this curious juxtaposition of sweeping natural beauty and the obvious rectangle of man's intervention.
Back home I made two different versions of this image, each with a different ambiance.
This colour version has a lovely warm and welcoming summer's day feel to it, while my alternative duotone version is much more stark and dramatic.
Two completely different end results from the same RAW file.
