These beautiful and dramatic snow capped mountain peaks, swathed in cloud and lit by patches of sunlight, were just of many eye-catching scenes that Liz and I witnessed while our cruise liner, the P&O Azura, was berthed at Akureyri on the north coast of Iceland.
Akureyri is at the end of the Eyjafjordur fjord, a truly stunning stretch of coastline, especially when the sun and cloud combine to paint the landscape in a chiaroscuro dance of light and shade.
Originally photographed in colour, I converted this frame to a duotone, warming the highlights and cooling the shadows, which, to my mind, has helped bring out the bleakness and grandeur of the mountains, snow and cloud.
