The pier at the far end of the East Shore at Llandudno on the North Wales coast is a very popular destination with tourists and day trippers alike.
This photo shows the shore end of the pier, dominated by the monolithic Grand Hotel which in turn is flanked by numerous and highly colourful stalls selling all sorts of holiday memorabilia.
Look a bit more closely and you'll see evidence of the faded grandeur of this Victorian edifice. Corroded ironwork, peeling paint and decaying wood all add to the ambiance of this most quintessential of genteel seaside towns.
