The Gwydyr Forest in the Snowdonia National Park is quite something to walk through.
My latest foray into this woody wonderland occured in Autumn 2016, when I decided to take a hike up from Llyn Crafnant to the top of the ridge seperating Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd to the east.
Hoping for a good view back down overlooking Llyn Crafnant, I was disappointed in that I couldn't see the lake for the trees!
Never mind though, as the hike back down took me through some enchanting dense woodland, with ancient lichen covered trees and rocks, lit sporadically by the odd burst of sunlight filtering through the canopy.
A good job I was carrying my tripod with me, as the light levels were so low I could never have captured photos of this otherworldy place otherwise.
This particular tree caught my attention, standing stark in a patch of light while all around was in darkness, and a conversion to monochrome helped to bring out the tones and textures that capture the mood of the forest very well.
