Sunset at Yavapai Point, on the south rim of the Grand Canyon - what an experience!
My wife Liz and I had spent the day at the canyon, exploring the various overlooks accessible from Route 64 that follows the canyon's edge for about 20 miles from the Grand Caynon Village in the west to Desert View in the east.
My plan however, was always to return to Yavapai Point for the sunset. The reason being a photograph of this scene that I have admired for some time, which Alain Briot has on his website here.
I love the quality of light and colour palette of Alain's image, and although I used a different view of the scene I wanted to experience the same light and colours that I saw in Alain's photo.
Anyhow, I wasn't disappointed! The sunset light streaming through the canyon was marvellous, and I took many photos from the same spot as the light changed.
This one is my favourite, with the most pleasing balance between light and shade. A little later and the sandstone formations in the canyon lost the light and the show was over.
