One of my pleasures while visiting a foreign country on holiday is to drive around the smaller local roads and to look at the scenery that I would miss by just staying in a tourist resort.
Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands has some great roads to enjoy, both from a driving and photography point of view, and my wife Liz and I drove over 1000km around the volcanic landscape during our week long stay on the island.
The odd layby enabled us to stop for a photo, and quite often I would include the road in my composition as a leading line to draw the viewer's eye through the frame to a point of interest.
Also for me, including a road in the image evokes a sense of travel and adventure.
What lies around the next bend?
