Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands has some of the most interesting and varied volcanic landscapes that my wife Liz and I have come across in our travels.
So much so that certain rock formations have become tourist attractions in their own right.
One such is the volcanic upwelling called 'Roque Bentayga', which Liz and I visited during our week long stay on the island in February 2019.
Situated near the centre of the island, at quite a high altitude, Roque Bentayga is set in an otherworldly landscape of volcanic rock, with serrated flanks sparsely covered with drought resistant scrub.
This particular view of Roque Bentayga also features the other famous Gran Canaria rock, 'Roque Nublo' in the background.
