One of my pleasures while visiting a foreign country on holiday is to drive around the smaller local roads and to look at the scenery that I would miss by just staying in a tourist resort.
Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands has some great roads to enjoy, both from a driving and photography point of view, and my wife Liz and I drove over 1000km around the volcanic landscape during our week long stay on the island.
This image, taken from the GC-500 road on the approach to Meloneras on the south coast of the island, gives an idea of the dry, rocky, barren, desert-like conditions in this part of the island.
Ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered to stop to take this photo, but the wispy cirrus clouds made the image come alive.
