As far as resort developments go, Amadores on the south coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands is one of the nicer examples.
At least my wife Liz and I thought so after spending a few hours here on a couple of occasions during our week long stay on the island.
One of the best things at Amadores is the cliff top promenade that takes you a mile along the coast to the slightly less salubrious resort of Puerto Rico.
This undulating pathway gives you stunning views out over the volcanic sea cliffs down to the deep blue waters of the Atlantic ocean far below, with the cliff top punctuated by shining white hotels.
There's not a lot able to grow in these harsh, arid conditions, but these cactii seemed to be making a go of it on the cliff top alongside the promenade, even providing me with a splash of red for this photograph, contrasting nicely with the deep blue of the sky and the brilliant white of a nearby hotel.
