I never cease to wonder that, after just an hour's drive from where I live, I can be surrounded by such beauty.
This is one of my favourite spots in Snowdonia (yes - there are many!) on the path that leads from the Ogwen Valley visitors' centre up to Llyn Idwal at the base of the Devil's Kitchen.
From this spot you can actually see two mountain ranges.
To the north of the Ogwen valley lie the Carneddau, while to the south the surreal peaks of the Glyderau are framed against the unusually cloud free skies.
This panoramic view encompasses about 160 degrees, and, from the left, includes the following well loved landmarks.
At the far left is the Nant Ffrancon valley, leading you towards the North Wales coast.
Next is the wonderfully shaped conical peak of Pen-yr-Olwen, one of the mountains I've not yet climbed (maybe one day soon).
Pen-yr-Olwen sweeps down to the shore of Llyn Ogwen, which marks the end of the Carneddau range and the beginning of the Glyderau.
On the south side of Llyn Ogwen and looking like a giant cornish pasty lies the improbable peak of Tryfan, one of the most loved and shapliest mountains in Snowdonia.
If you were to follow the scene further round to the right you would see the rest of the Glyderau mountains, but as the sun was shining from that direction I didn't include them on this occasion.
Maybe I'll come back when the weather's not so sunny and repeat the exercise.
