The good old gerbera, staple fodder for photographers of flowers since time immemorial!
Of course, I had to have a photo of this venerable bloom somewhere in my collection, but I was quite fed up, to be honest, with the traditional pretty and colourful renditions that you see on greetings cards and so on.
This particular image started life with pink petals and yellow stamens, but I converted it to black and white using the Photoshop channel mixer to boost contrast, and then I toned it using the colourise function in an HSL (hue, saturation and lightness) adjustment layer.
The effort was worth it in that I've now got an eye-catching image of a seriously over photographed subject!
