Standing on the famous Ponte Vecchio, looking northwest along the river Arno as it flows through the centre of Florence, Italy, gives this lovely view of the sweep of the river, lined with colourful buildings and with the hills of northern Italy forming an impressive backdrop to the scene.
Thankfully, on this day the sun wasn't shining. Instead we had beautifully textured low cloud which made for a much more interesting sky for this image, as well as reducing the glare coming off the painted houses and allowing those lovely Tuscan colour to shine through.
Photographically speaking I'd much rather have weather like this than just blue skies and bright sun. It makes for a much better photo, both from a technical and aethsetic point of view.
