The Pitti Palace on the south bank of the river Arno is one of the foremost and well known art galleries in Florence, and Liz and I spent a day there exploring during our short break in Tuscany.
Although the artwork was nice, I was much more interested in the buildings and gardens, with visually appealing details everywhere I turned.
Take this lamp for example. It could have been made as a plain, utilitarian item, but someone in years gone by took the trouble to make it as a thing of beauty as well as being useful.
I was fortunate to see the lamp lit with a low angled sun, which painted its fascinating shadow onto the wall and added an extra something to an already attractive scene.
