During our two week stay in Estes Park, Colorado, my wife Liz and I saw many nice touches to the town that made our holiday highly enjoyable.
Although we spent most of our days exploring the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, we also found the time just to wander around town, enjoying the sights, sounds and coffee to be found in this lovely place.
While Liz was busy looking in the shops, I took more interest in what was to be seen outside, which is where I saw this life sized bronze statue of an elf. (The pointy ears gave it away!)
The bronze, with its patina of age, was glowing gently in the afternoon sun, and it was the colours of the metal that attracted me to the sculpture enough to want to take a photo.
The surrounding street scene was very cluttered so I decided to concentrate just on the elf's face and shoulder, using a wide open aperture on my lens to throw the background wall out of focus.
I also used my polarising filter to remove the worst of the sun's glare from the bronze, allowing the colours that had originally attracted me to be fully appreciated.
