My wife Liz and I were on a short break in Paris, staying near Montmartre this time. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, with cloud and intermittent drizzle putting a dampener on our sightseeing experience.
However, every cloud has a silver lining, and although the weather was a bit miserable, the light was perfect for taking photos of decaying details, as the soft diffuse light made for even contrast and saturated colours.
With that in mind I took Liz for a walk in the local cemetery (who says romance is dead!) and we soon found ourselves amongst a wealth of decay, dereliction, peeling paint, stray cats and general seediness - Wonderful!
This door was typical of the atmosphere of genteel decay that pervaded our stroll that afternoon on a damp day in Paris.
