I've long been fascinated by abstract patterns and textures in my photographic endeavours, and the slate quarries of North Wales provide a wealth of opportunity for isolating attractive compositions such as this worked face in the massive disused Dinorwig workings.
The late afternoon light was angled just right to highlight this vertical diagonal line, while throwing the background slate face into shadow and picking out all the slight faces and textures in the rock.
Zooming in to isolate just this diagonal line made for a very strong visual arrangement in my camera's viewfinder, and a subsequent conversion to monochrome in Photoshop helped to strengthen the effect of the lines and textures in the rock by removing the distraction of colour.
