The beauties of slate.
Living in North Wales, I get to see a lot of slate, but even I was taken aback by the sheer magnitude of the disused slate quarry at Dinorwig in the Snowdonia National Park.
Now a historical trail, my wife Liz and I enjoyed a rare sunny afternoon exploring this other-worldly wonderland, with its frighteningly deep excavations and imposing mounds of slate spoil.
The afternoon sun shining on the slate helped to bring out the beautiful colours that imbue this unique rock.
Slate is anything but grey, and the lovely hues of blue and magenta in this particular pile of discarded spoil is what attracted me to its photographic potential.
