Not exactly your typical North Wales beauty spot, this is the world famous abandoned slate quarry at Dinorwig in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.
Never heard of it? Well I wouldn't be suprised, as its fame derives from its multiple appearances as a film set for such well known films as Mortal Kombat, The War of the Dragons, Clash of the Titans and various other sci-fi and fantasy epics.
Walking into this huge manmade scar on the landscape is like visiting a different planet, with plunging excavations and raw mountains of slate spoil on an epic scale.
Pictured here are just a small part of the workings, nestled against the deep waters of Llyn Peris, close to the town of Llanberis, just across the lake.
