During our two week stay on the Mediterranean island of Crete in September 2017 my wife Liz and I spent most of our time driving around in our hire car, staying away as much as possible from the heavily developed tourist traps of the north coast.
Instead we sought out the beautiful and rugged scenery of undeveloped stretches of coastline and the mountainous interior of the island.
One of the places we made multiple visits to was the small seaside village of Milatos on the northeastern coast.
Milatos was quite nice in itself, and we enjoyed a lovely seafood meal here sitting next to the sea on the evening this photo was taken.
But the main reason for our trips here was that Milatos was the only place on the coast, within driving distance of where we were staying at Hersonissos, that you could watch the sunset from as it set to the southwest.
And what sunsets!
