Most of the two weeks that Liz and I spent on the Mediterranean island of Crete in September 2017 was spent driving around the eastern half of Crete, taking in the beautiful scenery and basking in the hot weather under cloudless skies.
So when clouds started to appear towards the end of our stay I got quite excited, as photographically speaking I can only handle clear blue skies for so long.
So as our holiday drew to a close we decided to re-visit some of the nicest places we'd seen during our first week, to see how things looked with a bit of cloud action to liven the view up.
One of our favourite drives took us around the stunning Mirabello Bay (yes - it's as lovely as its name suggests), and we made a point of stopping at the dramatically situated greek orthodox church of Agia Fotini, right by the sea just off the road from Sitia to Agia Nikolaos.
We'd had a good look round the church the previous week under clear blue skies, so I was delighted to re-visit this amazing spot and re-photograph the scene, this time with a fan of cloud spreading out over the church and coast which softened the harsh shadows somewhat.
I was really pleased we managed a second bite of this particular photographic cherry, and we carried on our way just revelling in the loveliness all around us.
