This wooden cottage is typical of a country home in Austria, and very interesting and photogenic it is too.
Liz and I found this example on the shores of the Bodensee, a lake near to Schladming where we spent our holidays last summer.
We were looking for a nice gentle day out after blasting our legs off climbing the Wilde Wasser trail the day before, and the guide book promised that the Bodensee was a stroll around a beautiful lake which could be accomplished while pushing a buggy - just the job.
In the end we went off piste to find a waterfall that was 'just a short climb' from the lake, and ended up exhausted again, but it was worth the effort.
This deceptively simple photo also took a lot of effort to get it looking how I wanted, with the emphasis on the flowers set against the darker wooden background. In the end I used a combination of HDR, orton and partial monchrome conversion with colour popping to get what I wanted.
It seems that anything worthwhile always takes effort.
