A lovely evening at Colwyn Bay on the North Wales coast, just half an hour or so from my home, found me shooting the hundreds of frames needed to create my Colwyn Bay Tide Timelapse #1 video, as the Irish Sea swept in up the beach.
At the end of the shoot I just couldn't tear myself away from such a beautiful scene, especially as the sky to the northwest was glowing with the vivid orange of twilight on the horizon, fading to the deep blue of night overhead, with the planet Venus glowing like a jewel set on a velvet cushion just over the Little Orme headland. and the lights of Rhos-on-Sea twinkling against the dark landmass.
So I climbed down onto the rocks right at the waterline and took a few single images, but the standard 3x2 frame aspect ratio wasn't giving me the visual impact I wanted, so instead I turned my tripod mounted camera on its side and shot a series of overlapping exposures to blend into a panoramic composition later on back home.
A much more visually satisfying way of showing the twilight beauty of the view that night over Colwyn Bay, even if I did get my boots filled with seawater in the process!.
