Here's another image of the sky, taken from the slopes of Moel Famau in North Wales, but under completely different lighting conditions.
This strange photo was taken very early in the morning, before any natural light had arrived on the eastern horizon.
The mottled clouds were underlit by streetlights from the nearby town of Mold, and were glowing orange against the inky black sky in which a few of the brighter stars were still visible.
The natural valley between Moel Famau and Foel Ffenli formed a wonderfully shaped negative space in which the lit clouds could be framed, and the single tree outlined against the sky provides a small, but important, point of focus for the composition.
I love dramatic lighting and simple geometric arrangements in my images, and I'm glad I got up and out early that morning.
